John Prendergast is guilty of having been an investment banker for the better part of the last decade (he is recovering now) most recently leading Jefferies & Co. efforts in Infrastructure and Technical Software Banking. John left banking to return to his entrepreneurial roots as founder and CEO of Value Media, Inc. His entrepreneurial career began in an unlikely place, having lunch at a fast food restaurant. While an undergraduate student at Boston College, John read a sign that said “Call for information about franchising opportunities”. He did. After meeting with George Nadaff, then CEO of Boston Chicken (soon to be Boston Market) he recruited 2 partners and convinced his parents to take a mortgage out on their house to finance his investment in the venture. The fact that John is still alive and well is testament to his repaying his parents in full, with interest. Several years later he sold his interest in the business and worked as an early employee in various technology companies. John can be reached at john@comingunhedged.com
